Nelson Yoga Room (the physical space) is currently closed as part of New Zealand's efforts to combat Covid-19. During this time when we are unable to meet in-person for yoga, Susan is offering live, online classes via Zoom.
In these classes, we meet in real time in an online 'meeting'. You will see and hear Susan on your computer, or mobile device, so you can follow instructions and demonstrations. Susan will be able to see all students in the class and offer individualised suggestions and corrections.
To participate in these classes you need:
your own yoga equipment -- mat, strap, 2 bricks, Sarvangasana (shoulder-stand) supports, bolster if possible
to install the Zoom app on your computer/device (do that here) and sign up for a free Zoom account
a quiet place to set up, where your computer/device's camera can see you on your mat, both sitting and standing
before the class you will be provided with a link which you will click on to join the correct 'meeting'
CATH: The technology is easy to use and it doesn't feel very different from my usual class. I still get personalised feedback and Susan can see what's available in my space to use and adapt. I don't have to deal with traffic to get to class on time. It's great to keep some semblance of my weekly routine going through the lockdown
JO: It’s been a real treat to still be able to do a ‘proper’ yoga class during this Rahui time. I was surprised how positive the experience was. Susan has taken great care to get each student’s video and mat in the right place so she can provide helpful feedback on what we’re doing. It’s been lovely seeing the other students as well! It was the first time I’d used Zoom and I found it surprisingly easy.

All sessions are 90 minutes long, including 5-10 minutes of Savasana (relaxation) at the end
Open level classes are suitable for any current student of Iyengar yoga, and cater for a range of experience levels, but are not suitable for new beginners. Classes will include Sirsasana (headstand) and Sarvangasana (shoulder-stand) or preparatory alternatives for those students not practicing these inversions.
Led Practice sessions are suitable for students with at least 2 years of Iyengar yoga experience, and some independent self-practice. You will be able to see Susan on her own mat doing the poses along with you. You will hear her calling the sequence and timings, but she won't be giving detailed instructions or individual corrections.
