Iyengar Yoga is based on the teachings of Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar (1918-2014). Despite childhood illness and poverty, Guruji devoted his life from an early age to the practice and teaching of yoga. In 1975 he established his yoga institute in Pune, India, and for decades taught students from throughout India and the world. He was a pivotal force in spreading the art and science of yoga to the West.

My yoga journey began in the late 1980’s, when a friend persuaded me to try beginner’s classes. I had no idea the life-changing gift I'd been given. Yoga has brought me energy and confidence, helped me through chronic back problems, and helps me cultivate a deeper, kinder understanding of myself. I consider myself blessed to make sharing this amazing discipline my life's work.
I began teaching yoga in 2002, under the guidance of Rosie Holland. I gained my teacher certification in early 2010 and have run my own yoga school since later that year. Over the years, I have attended numerous workshops and retreats with senior teachers both from New Zealand and overseas, including studying at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India. I continue my professional development by regular workshop attendance. |
